Ohhh, Ohhh, Ohhh!!!! As I am sitting here typing my favorite UPS guy just showed up with my Powertap wheel!!!!! It's a beautiful wheel built by Rich Sawiris at Wheelbuilder.com.
I've learned so much about training with power since I've been at Endurance Nation. I was lucky enough to go into their program already owning a Computrainer, so I was able to get up to speed about how to train with watts from the get go. Everything we do on the bike is based on % of your functional threshold power. We test, test, test regularly to see how much we can "raise the roof" on our fitness and power. In the off-season program I had a 10% increase in watts at threshold, which was a very good jump for me. My husband went up 15%, and just went up another 8 watts last week. He's getting scary strong.
I am now a total devotee to the cult of power, and knew I needed a power meter for training on the road. More coming in the weeks ahead about training with a Powertap. Now if it will only warm up a little around here!
If anyone is interested in learning a LOT in one fell swoop about training with power and using Cycling Peaks, Endurance Nation has a great Power Webinar download. Highly recommended. It's a great bargain too.
